AROH Milestones

  • AROH becomes the Host Institute of India Water Partnership, a country partner of GWP

AROH elected as the Host Institute of India Water Partnership.
AROH becomes the official partner and Host Institution of Global Water Partnership (GWP) and a member of India Water Partnership (IWP). AROH has joined hands with IWP to promote the vision of GWP for a water secure world, for developing sustainable practices for managing the water resources at all levels and to adopt an equitable and efficient management and sustainable use of water. India Water Partnership (IWP) is the country water partnership functioning under the framework of Global Waters Partnership (GWP) promoting Integrated Water Resource management (IWRM) for water security leading to sustainable national development by using low cost water saving technologies. Depleting ground water table and deteriorating ground water quality are threatening the sustainability of both urban and rural water supply in many parts of the world. Supply of surface water is threatened by pollution, scarcity and conflicts among users. Only through water conservation, sustainability of the resource could be attained to meet the current and future human demand. Efficient water management promotes a countrys economic and social progress while a poor management hinders development. Current population growth stems the fact that more people and various sectors would compete for water leading to scarcity, pollution, health deterioration and physical and mental stress. By 2025, three billion people will live in water stressed countries. Also droughts, floods, hurricanes and other natural disasters that destroy lives, would drain the economies hindering development.Apart from the existing problems, climate change is another factor that adds woes to, in affecting the water cycle, sea level and rainfall variability. Better governance will be the key aspect for sustainable water management. Poor people are the most affected due to water problems. Lack of access by the poor to adequate, safe and reliable supplies of water limits their options to improve their livelihoods. AROH has been working in this direction to empower the less privileged poor and needy segment of the society. To mark the beginning of the association, an MoU was signed on 27th February 2013, by AROH and IWP who further resolved to take steps to work for sustainable development, especially the water related issues.
